This study aimed to explore patient’s expectations, experiences and desires with drugs prescribed for spinal cord injury (SCI) neuropathic pain (NP).
Neuropathic pain is often described as the most difficult secondary medical consequence after spinal cord injury (SCI), with prevalence rates estimated to be 40-60%. SCI-related neuropathic pain is primary treated pharmacologically. Most individuals with severe SCI-related NP is not expected to achieve complete or even acceptable pain-relief. Consequently, many individuals who suffer from SCI-related NP are disappointed with the pain management. Therefor it’s important to explore the patient’s experiences.
A qualitative study design with focus groups will be used. Participants with SCI and NP will be recruited to take part in focus groups. Data will be analysed with content analysis with constant comparison.
